Frequently asked questions

Do I need to bring any materials for my lesson ?

You will need to provide all the fabrics and other additional materials what will be needed to complete your project, such as: zips, interfacing, buttons etc… You do not need to bring threads as we have great colour range here for you to use.

Would I need to get a pattern for my dress ?

We encourage our student not to use commercial patterns as from experience it takes a long time to adjust it to fit you. Instead, we offer to make you a bespoke pattern for an additional cost (from £15), so you could have what fits you well from the start to avoid all unnecessary work.

Would I need to bring a sewing machine ?

All necessary tools and machinery will be provided for your sewing lessons. You could bring a machine if you’d prefer to use your own, just bare in mind that our studio is located on a second floor and there is no lift facilities as it’s an old building.

What fabrics will I need to buy?

What fabric you will need to buy will depend on what project you will be working on. In general for your first project try to stay away from “difficult” to work with fabrics, which move too much (soft satin, chiffon, soft crepe); fabric with a nap (velvet, cord); fabric with a geometrical pattern which may be difficult to match. For cushions and bags, upholstery or curtain weight fabrics would work well. For dressmaking projects some kind of cotton (or similar) with small or an abstract pattern would work best. You will be advised on what fabric and how much you will need to buy.
